Overview

This 5 day tour to the Higher Himalayas will be a cultural dose of the Uttarakhand mountains. Driving through the High Himalayan roads,  Joshimath township is worth exploring amid the Himalayan landscape. On your drive to Badrinath you will be greeted by the magnanimity of the Nar & Narayan mountains. At Badrinath the day is spent on the trail of the Pandavas where you will visit the Last Indian Village, Mana, known for its distinct culture; Vyas Gufa, where the Mahabharatha was composed by Ved Vyas & Bhim Pul which became the stairway to heaven for the Pandava brothers. After Badrinath, Auli will be a surreal experience with snow capped views of Nanda Devi, Hathi Ghoda peak along the 4 km long Gondola ride. The trip ends on a soothing note along the Ganges at Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the world.

Itinerary

Day 1: Dehradun Airport – Joshimath (Drive/ 280 Kms/ 10- 11 hrs)

a. Arrive at Dehradun Airport & drive to Joshimath. (Early morning arrivals are recommended on this long day on road)

b. Drive past Rishikesh & witness the panch prayag (5 holy confluences), namely: Devprayag (Confluence of Alaknanda & Bhagirathi) ; Rudraprayag (Confluence of Alaknanda & Mandakini) ; Karnaprayag (Confluence of Pindar & Alaknanda); Nandaprayag (Mandakini & Alaknanda) & finally Vishnuprayag (Confluence of Alaknanda & Dhauliganga)

c. Check into the Homestay/ hotel at Joshimath.

d. Dinner & Overnight in Joshimath.

Day 2: Joshimath – Badrinath - Mana Village - Vyas Gufa - Bhim Pul - Joshimath (Drive/ 45 Kms/ 2 hrs one way)

a. Today after breakfast, depart for Badrinath temple/ Mana Village.

b. On arriving you will have to walk for about a Km to the temple premises & visit this famous Dham of Uttarakhand.

Badrinath temple, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu as it is here, Goddess Laxmi after seeing him perform intense mediation in extreme weather conditions, protected him in form of Badri tree. The temple dates back to the 8th Century when Adi Guru Shankracharya converted it into a temple.

c. After the temple visit, walk along the trail that takes you to Mana Village, the last village on the India Tibet border.

d. Here you will find the inhabitants engaged in knitting & selling handcrafted products which are of immense value.

e. The inhabitants here are Bhotia (Mongol tribes) who are dressed in their traditional attire.

f. Walk further from Mana & you will come to Vyas Gufa (Cave) where Ved Vyas wrote the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

g. A little further from Vyas Gufa is the celebrated stairway to Heaven created by Bheem, one of the Pandava brothers.
Bheem pul is built over River Saraswati’s gushing presence & is a sight to behold.

h. From Bheem pul on your way back relish a hot cup of tea at the Last Tea Shop of India, as it connects Tibet/ China border.

i. Trace back the same route to the parking & be driven back to Joshimath.

j. In the evening spend some time soaking in the essence of this High Himalayan township.

k. Dinner & Overnight at the Homestay/Hotel.

Day 3: Joshimath - Auli Ropeway - Joshimath (Drive/ 15 mins)

a. Today Post breakfast set out on the ropeway to the Himalayas, in the slopes at Auli.

b. Auli, is one of its kind Himalayan ski resort & hill station offering up close views of snow capped Himalayas.

c. The 4.5 Km ropeway will take you on a Gondola ride 3,016 m above sea level. Cherish the ride as it gives you an eagle’s eye vision of the slopes at Auli.

d. Once you reach the slopes, you can do a short hike to explore the Himalayan landscape around you including the snow capped views of Nanda Devi Peak, second highest peak in India.

e. Spend some time just soaking the views or taking a nap in the lap of nature’s bountiful meadows.

f. At the slopes you can also eat at the cafe selling Maggi & a hot cup of coffee/ tea amidst the surreal views.

g. After your day in the lap of the Himalayas, return to Joshimath via cable car or a hike downhill.

h. In the evening explore Joshimath township & visit the famous Narsingh temple.

i. Narsingh Temple at Joshimath is worshiped as the winter seat of Lord Badrinath (Vishnu) & holds immense significance in our Vedas.

j. Spend time soaking in the backdrop of the temple premises, adorned by High Mountain ranges.

k. Return to the homestay/ hotel.

l. Dinner & Overnight in Joshimath.

Day 4 :Auli – Rishikesh (Drive/ 272 kms/ 11 -12 hrs)

a. From Joshimath, post early breakfast be driven to Rishikesh along the Ganges.

b. Check in to the homestay at Rishikesh & unwind your long journey.

c. Towards evening, spend some time along the riverside to take back much more than just the mountains.The flow of River Ganga here is said to soothe you of all troubles.

d. Return to the homestay

e. Dinner & Overnight at Homestay/ Hotel.

Day 5: Rishikesh – Dehradun Airport (Drive/ 20 kms/ 45 mins)

a. Today post breakfast, depart for onward journey.

b. Trip ends here.
